Tech Travel: Research

Directions

You will be choosing a different country and city to travel for 3-4 days during spring break (hypothetically). You will be planning out the details of the trip using various techonology resources and creating a Google Slideshow with effects to present your trip to Mr. Heil and convince him your trip is the best.

Sign up for a Country and City but make sure no student in your class or another class has signed up for the same city (same country is okay). You may not choose a city that you have already visited, it must be a new city as I want you to actually use your travel plans one day if you can. You can view what cities are already taken by other students on this spreadsheet to ensure you don't sign up for the same one. If you want to change your city, simply fill out the form again and email Mr. Heil which city you no longer would like to have.

Your trip will be 3-5 days depending on price and how long it takes to travel. For example, you would want 5 days if your flight takes longer to travel to (e.g. South America). You will only need to plan one full day of excursions while you are there. You can leave as soon as March 21 (Saturday) and you have to return by March 29 in the evening. Your trip will be only three days long but you can choose any three days within that time range. You may want to choose your dates based on the cheapest airfare or events going on at that time.

Flights

Then go to Google Flights to look up your flight from Seoul to your destination city for your family (include the number of adults and kids; if you feel one of your parents might be busy with work, you can fly with one adult or invite a grandparent to go with you. In your search, enter March 24 as your departure date and March 27 as your arrival so that you can see the prices before and after those dates. Go to the Dates grid like the one below and choose the dates that have the lowest prices. Screenshot your grid like the one below and insert it into a new Google Doc that you have created called CA Travel Plans: Your City, Country.

Hotel

After you have checked your Google Flight, use Google Hotel (link on the left side bar) to research your hotel or resort. Your trip does not have a budget but part of your evaluation will be trip value, which means getting the most value of the money you do spend. So look through hotels carefully and choose an economical place to stay that is not too expensive but not too cheap and make sure it has value. Since you have a family, you may want to consider using https://www.airbnb.com/ to search for a place to stay for your family as it may be more economical.

Look through the ratings, reviews, and location to see if it would be a good fit. Location is very important because you want to be somewhat close to the attractions you want to do so you do not have to spend a lot of time and money traveling to the sites. Copy the Google Hotel link that you chose and paste it into the same Google Doc.

Activities

Finally, go to https://www.visitacity.com and search your city for activities and plans for your one day of sight seeing the city. Decide on what you want to see and in your Google Doc, type out a brief schedule of your one-day of activities:

Morning: Visit the cathedreal and take the bus tour

Afternoon: Take a boat across the famous lake and go fishing

Evening: Watch a theater production and walk along the river lights

In Schoology, post your travel grid, a screenshot of your hotel choice on Google Hotel, and type your brief activity schedule like the example above. Also insert your Google Doc link.
