Checkpoints
- Overview & Draft Ideas
- Read the overview of the CD part of the project
- Watch the video and follow its directions to create a rough draft. Take a photo of both sides and post it along with one photo of a physical CD (case, CD, booklet, etc) which shows creativity and designs that you like. Bring the paper rough draft and CD next time you have class. Student example one, two. Do not spend more than 30 minutes total time on this checkpoint.
- CD Photos
- Take at least nine photos that you will possibly use in the designs of your CD. A creative and quality photo of you has to be displayed somewhere on the front of the CD. Look at the photography used in the previous class. Post your photos to a new album in your picasa named "CD Photos" and ask two people to comment on them and help you choose which ones to use and the locations.
- If you have the time, you may also want to scout out locations to film your MV. Photos used for the CD case are often related to the location and feel of the MV.
- Color
- Create your color scheme. Adobe Kuler Custom Color Pallet [link][color shapes]. Color Scheme Designer [link].
- Watch and read the content below:
- Time
- For the following checkpoints, you may only use class time to complete them according to the calendar. If you finish a checkpoint early in class, you can go back and improve or work ahead. You must upload what you have finished for each checkpoint by the end of class on the day it is due on the calendar.
- This section of the project is to assess how efficient you can use the Photoshop tools with a limited amount of time. I will investigate if I hear from other students, teachers, or parents that you are using outside time to complete it and points may be deducted. If you miss a class period, you may use an equal amount of class time to complete the work at school during AP, lunch, or after school (but not at home).
- Comments for Improvement
- For each of the checkpoints below, after you have sent it to posterous, ask at least one person to comment and suggest ways to make it better on your posterous post. You must have a different person comment for each checkpoint. This will be part of your grade and is your responsibility to have someone make helpful, quality comments. All comments should be completed by the next day. For example, if you complete it on Monday there should be a comment on Monday or anytime on Tuesday.
- Create the front and back cover booklet (read the green text & watch the video above)
- Make sure that you include a photo of yourself that you took just for the front cover (do not use your profile, portrait, or signature photo unless you have special permission and it is applicable). You can use anything for the back cover of the booklet. Also include your artist name and song title. Upload a screenshot of your design.
- Create the CD label
- You can create anything for the design. Upload a screenshot of your design.
- Create the two inside pages of the booklet
- Inside left side of page: song title and lyrics
- Inside right side of page: your shadow collage, additional information about the artist(s), special thanks section to whoever you want. Upload a screenshot of your design.
- Create the back of the CD case
- Include the following:
- Track list (one song), band or artist name, bar code, CD edge (similar to a binding on a book) with your artist name, song name, and record label) and the total time of the song somewhere on the back case
- CD edge "binding"
- Create the front side of the back CD case (behind the CD)
- Your choice of text/design, CD edge "binding" can be blank, Upload a screenshot of your design.
- Peer Editing
- Check a student's CD designs on their Posterous. Copy the categories below and rank from 1-5 (1 is the best) their work for each of the CD parts (back of CD, label, etc). If they did not use photography in a certain section, type N/A (not available) since it is not required to have photos on each part. You must make comments on how they can improve from your opinion. You can add what you like about it if you wish.

- The Quarter Two Optional Bonus

- Take your short commercial and insert it at the end of your music video. Post it to YT.
