typography basics
- Bowl - A closed rounded (but not a circle) stroke (e.g. letters a, e, d)
- Counter - The inside of a bowl
- Leg - The bottom straight stroke of a letter that touches the baseline (e.g. letters L, K)
- Baseline - The invisible line on which characters sits. All the letters should sit evenly on this line except for bowl letters.
- Meanline - The line that falls at the top of many lowercase letters (e.g. a, e)
- Ascender - The part of the letter that extends above the meanline
- X-Height - The distance between the baseline and the meanline
- Cap Height - The distance from the baseline to the top of uppercase letters.
