Typing Tutorials
1. Pre
Follow the directions to complete the pre-assessment typing to see how your typing is compared to the 50wpm standard.
2. Tutorial 1
Again, if you typed at least 50wpm in class when the teacher checked (your WPM is recorded in the gradebook under the Pre assignment), then you are exempt from these tutorials:
For the first typing homework assignment, spend 45 minutes and complete as much tutorials as possible within this time frame although if you are very behind in typing, you may want to spend more time to improve.
Sign Up
If you have not already, go to http://www.typingweb.com and click log in at the top right of the page. Use your classID (without the @gmail) for your user name and the same password for your classID email. Also use your class Gmail for the email address. Make sure you are logged in each time you work on any typing tutorials.
- In the Beginner Course section, take the Home Row Words typing exercise once through. When you are finished with the first exercise (11% complete, like the example below) compare your results with the Typing Standards. Net speed is your average speed and gross speed is the fastest time you had during your typing session.
- Now continue on to the Easy Top Row Words & Easy Bottom Row Words typing exercises. Again, after you have spent 45 minutes typing, take a screenshot like the one below but it should show your WPM starting with Home Row Keys.
3. Intermediate
Tutorial 2
For the first typing homework assignment, spend 45 minutes and complete as much tutorials as possible starting with 2.1 within this time frame although if you are very behind in typing, you may want to spend more time to improve.
Complete the entire lessons, not just a small percentage of each:
- 2.1 - Take Learn to Bust a Capital Word and complete the typing follow-up directions.
- 2.2 - Go and take the Basic Punctuation and complete the typing follow-up directions
- 2.3 - Take the Most Common English Words & complete the typing follow-up directions.
- 2.4 - Time to complete Numbers Numbers Numbers & complete the typing follow-up directions (for numbers, 35WPM w/error % is the standard to get an A+ instead of 55)
- 2.5 - Complete the Speed Drills & complete the typing follow-up directions
4. Advanced
Tutorial
Complete the entire lessons, not just a small percentage of each:
- 3.1 - Symbols & Advanced Punctuation & complete the typing follow-up directions
- (for this one, 35WPM w/error % is the standard to get an A+ instead of 55)
- 3.2 - Advanced Wrap Up & complete the typing follow-up directions
Opportunity for extra points (optional):
- 3.3 - The Numeric Keypad (must use number keypad on the right side of the keyboard) & complete the typing follow-up directions
5. Typing Test
Log into http://www.typingweb.com and click on "Tests" at the top. Take the test without looking at the keyboard and use the fingers to press the keys that it shows with the hands. You must get 55 wpm net speed with 95-100% accuracy. If you do not pass the first time, try once more. If you still do not pass, go to courses and at the bottom, take the lesson "Your Problem Keys." Also work on any other lessons that will help you improve. Many times it just takes much practice. You may take the test a total of five times. If you do not reach the goal, then stop and you will not receive full credit. See grade list at the bottom of the page.
After you are finished, take a screenshot of the finished screen showing your results and post the link to the spreadsheet. Also write how many quality working minutes it took to finish the Test.
When you are finished, take a screenshot (and email to Posterous, tag classwork, & post to the typing spreadsheet) showing your result of your Net Speed and Accuracy like the screenshot below but make sure it is
