Group

Act Distribution

In your group, one member is in charge of Act I, another Act II, and the third member Act III. If your group has four then you can create Act IIa and IIb. Your group decides which member is in charge of each Act but it is easiest for the one who wrote the Act to be in charge of it.

Filming

The member in charge of the act is in charge of directing the actors during this act and filming it if he or she is not in it otherwise they can get someone else in the group, borrow another person to film, or use a tripod although they are responsible for the approval and end result of the filming/footage so if they do not approve of how it was filmed, they should film it again. It is suggested that they look at the footage immediately after it is filmed to avoid refilming the same scene on a different day. The group member will also edit their own Act and will receive an individual project grade on their Act.

Checklist

The group leader should look over the script & review the directions. Then the leader, with the help of the group members if needed, should count the Angles, Cuts, Shots, Effects, & Master Shots to make sure they have incorporated all of them into the script. Have the group leader copy the long list at the bottom of this page and paste it into an email and write the first name of the group member in charge next to each. If that group member forgets or does not complete their part correctly, only they will be deducted points but if a certain part was not assigned at all, the whole group will be deducted.

In the subject of the email write Superhero Super List by classID, classID, & classID and the group leader should email it to all of the group members and to mark.heil@yisseoul.org. You must complete this before filming.

Effects

Jumper

We did not learn the jumper effect but you basically just have the camera on a tripod and do not move it and then in editing, simply cutting out some of the middle footage from someone or something going form point A to point B.

Visual Effects

Each member will have to use one visual effect file (password: howzit) in their film and can download and add it later during the editing process. Right now, have each group member check out the various effects and choose one for their act and add it to the script in the following format

VISUAL EFFECT: SMOKE 03

3D Lighting

Each group member will have to integrate 3D lighting (any of them) into their act. Indicate on the script where you will use it in the following format:

VISUAL EFFECT: 3D LIGHTING SPOTLIGHT

Filming

Camera

Talk within your group and decide on which camera you will use. Be consistent and use that camera the whole time to ensure the quality & look will be the same.

Costumes

Using costumes for your superhero and props is essential and required for all characters...you may not have "normal" characters. Be creative and remember these are humorous films. You may not wear any clothing that says YISS since we are trying to be professional. Also avoid clothing that has large obvious logos or big words as logos. Keep the costumes and props in your locker so that you can wear the same thing if you film on a different day. Take a photo of you in your costume and post to Posterous at the end. If your costume is at school or with a friend, just take a photo of the clothes and props you do have and describe what else you will wear in the post. Remember your character should not wear school/normal clothes.

No violence, blood, or dangerous guns/weapons. G or PG-rated films.

Film

After you have read all of this and your group is comfortable with filming...go for it! Remember, you are only suppose to film during class and you have limited time so plan ahead and make sure you know in advance how, what, and where you are going to film.

Post

Each group member should post the following to Posterous before filming (copy and paste the numbered list below and fill it out...it is explained in the bullets below) but you should make sure the group leader completes #6 first:

    • Who will be responsible for bringing the camera each time and who will bring the backup camera
    • What creative costumes/clothing and props you did or will bring for the film
    • Which three categories you will film for your Master Shots & the specific names of the Master Shot you signed up for

Have each group member look at their Act and review the Master Shot categories they have to use. Make sure that there are two Master Shot categories per Act and for each category, use two specific Master Shots. To sign up, go to the correct spreadsheet below and type your classID next to the two you want to do for each of your categories. When you sign up, fill in only the first column F and only use the second column G if column F is full. The spreadsheet records all of your actions so if you delete someone on purpose or do not tell me, you will lose points. To watch and learn how to complete the Master Shot, see the Task Spreadsheet & click on the YT link.
