Volunteer Service

Next to videos, photos are what the viewer will first want to look at when they see your blog site.

Your future employers want to see that you have a heart for others and the community.

Use eight total photos from two different locations (or more if you want) where you served in volunteer service in the community to help others. Must show yourself in at least half of the photos. It is better and more efficient if you can use services and photos that you already have from the past.

If you need to serve in community service or volunteer work here are some options:

    • During class, go read a story to an elementary class or go serve as a teacher's assistant
    • Tutor elementary or middle school students at school
    • Volunteer to clean up the cafeteria after lunch
    • Ask a teacher if they need any help for their classes or cleaning
    • Go sing, play an instrument, or read a poem to an orphanage or retirement home
    • Pick up trash at the park
    • Do not choose services which directly help your family, relatives, or friends (e.g. cleaning your house, tutoring your friend).

In PowerPoint, insert a photo on each slide and create a title slide for each volunteer service event which comes before the photos. Choose a different solid slide background for each volunteer event (e.g. blue background for Mission's Trip, black background for helping at MS volleyball) so that it is a matte for your photo. Add an effect (e.g. 3-D) from the format pallet to each of your photos. When you are finished, go to File > Save as Pictures.

Upload the photos to your Me 2.0 Picasa in a new album called Community Service (make sure you change the settings from private to public) and add captions to narrate what is going on in the photo. Arrange the photos if needed; make sure the picture titles come before each service event. If you check your Me 2.0 site and it has mixed your photos up in a random order and you cannot fix it, that's okay. As long as the slides are color coordinated, it should be easy for someone to see which group of photos belong together.

You should have already added the Picasa gadget to the bottom of your Me 2.0 blogger in the Blog Design Setup so your photos should appear. Take a screenshot of your photos at the bottom of your blog and sent to posterous & the link to the spreadsheet.

This example is good but the background colors are wrong. Since she

has three events, she should have three separate background colors.

Also, the captions are missing from the photos.
