Complete all of the following for this tutorial:
Part A: Word Notes to Evernote
Watch the one minute Evernote overview video. Then use your phone and open the Evernote app (make sure you are signed into your CA account). Then press the camera icon and document camera and take a picture of two pages of your notes and post them to your CA Evernote Notebook (which is not the default) and add the tag "notes." Title the notes Word Tutorial 1.
Then open your Evernote application on your iMac, click the sync button, go to the CA notebook, and make sure that you see your notes that photographed with your phone. If you do not have a phone, borrow someone's phone, log them out, you log on, and complete the directions. Take a screenshot like the example below.
Now that you know how to use the document camera for your notes, take at least one photo of either notes or handouts from each of your classes over the next seven days and place it in the appropriate notebook. If you are in a study hall class, make a checklist note during one of your study hall classes of three assignments you want to work on during that period. This assignment will be due before next Thursday. Do not do this part in class.
Part B: Google Calendar
Go to your CA email settings and go to "Labs" and make sure your Google Calendar gadget is enabled.
Now go to your Inbox and on the left you may see a Google Calendar and calendar below it like the example below. Click "Click here" and log into your CA email. If you don't see it, click on the three dots (...) at the bottom left. Now switch the views of the calendar by clicking Options > uncheck view mini calendar.
If it asks you to go through the setup and click next, next, and next until completed while keeping the default settings, otherwise skip it.
When finished, your calendar should now look like the following (although maybe no holidays) on the right side of your Gmail Inbox:
Then click "Add" and type Sep 3 10pm Evernote Notebooks Due (Your First Name) (technically you have until 11:59pm but better to think it is earlier to be safe and give you extra time to plan for the unexpected).
Then go to your Google Calendar Settings and Mobile phone set up and add your number (starting with 010) and verify it like the screenshot below. If you are in A & D block, you can complete this paragraph and the next paragraph in class Aug 29; all other blocks must complete it before that date due to the adjustment in directions.
After your cell is verified, go to your calendar notification settings and add the following:
With Google Calendar, you can share your calendar with other Gmail accounts that you have or with your friends and family. Go to your Calendar Settings (see the screenshot on the right) and go to Calendars and choose your calendar and click on your Shared: Edit Settings and add your school email and give them "Make Changes & Manage Settings" permission.
Now open your school email (only open school mail in Safari on the iMacs to keep your accounts separate) and add the same calendar gadget on the left column by enabling it in the lab settings.
Next, download a Google Calendar app on your phone like the free version of CalenMob and sign into your school email. Make sure you can also see the events from your class email. If you do not have a phone, borrow a friend's or parent's email to complete the task. Take a screenshot of the app's agenda view (screenshot on the right) on your phone showing the Evernote due date on your app calendar. Open your Evernote App on your phone and upload the screenshot of your phone you just took to your CA Notebook and add the tag "classwork" to it. Now on your Calendar App on your phone, add a new event to that calendar and call it "CA Class Ends for Your Name" and schedule it for next Tue Sep 2 (Y-Day CA classes) or Wed Sep 3 (S-Day CA classes) and for the time, enter it for five minutes before class ends.
A Block: 9:10
D Block: 3:05
F Block: 11:30
G Block: 1pm
H Block: 3:05
Word Notes
Watch the video tutorial on Word shortcuts while taking notes. Try to practice the shortcuts on any of your Word documents. When finished, use the document camera on Evernote using your camera on your phone and upload the first page of your shortcut video notes to your CA notebook.
