Overview

In this lesson on type, you'll learn how to do the following:

    • How to film on a green screen
    • Import green screen footage into After Effects
    • Edit green screen video
  1. Open your Sunrise AE file and create a new composition tab that is 10 seconds with the same 720 size and spend 20 minutes creating a simple space background in AI and import the layers into AE. Don't make something too complex and do not trace things.
  2. You will later be placing yourself into the scene space dancing.
  3. AI Outer space Requirements:
    • Add animated stars in your outer space but make sure they are behind any objects (e.g. planets, etc).
    • Add at least one planet with a texture using a 3D circle (video tutorial).
      • Create another 3D shape (other than a circle and star) that is smaller than your planet. Make sure that it looks like it belongs in outer space and does not look awkward.
    • Use a gradient color for your background like the example below (notice how it is darker on the top right and left edges but the middle is brighter and looks more like a galaxy.
    • Add a comet using the video example (no sound) and duplicate it so you have three. Then animate them so they shoot across the sky very fast in different directions in the background behind the other objects.
    • -Put the comets behind any planets or objects
    • -The comets should start off the screen and shoot across the sky very fast one at a time from different directions
    • Create one other element to your space design using your AI skills (e.g. rings around your planet, alien, galaxy brushes, etc).
    • Next class you will insert yourself into the outer space scene
      1. Render as H.264 (make sure you render with audio) and post the video to Schoology. Export using Quicktime in 720 to reduce the file size if it is too big.
    1. Done
  1. Part B
        1. Apply at least one each: Opacity, Rotation, Anchor, Position, & Scale to your space background elements.
        2. Download One Bass Hit 30.mp3 and add the music file to your AE timeline starting at the beginning.
    1. Do not do:
    2. Later you will be graded on meeting the requirements, creativity of your puppet dance, and your Illustrator background.

Directions

    1. Follow each of the three steps below to complete this tutorial:Watch the video tutorial and instead of using importing video footage like the video says, import the photograph you took of yourself.
    2. In class, take a photo of yourself with your arms stretched out like the example. Make sure there is plenty of light and the color of the green is consistent.
    3. Using no more than 10 minutes, create a very simple background in AI for your dancer. Watch the video explaining how to use the Puppet Tutorial. Then make a 15 second dance video with only yourself.
    4. Apply Opacity, Rotation, Position, & Scale at least once in your creative dance.
    5. Download One Bass Hit 30.mp3 and add the music file to your video.
    6. Render as H.264 (make sure you render with audio) and post to your YouTube channel and the link to Schoology.
    7. Later you will be graded on meeting the requirements, creativity of your puppet dance, and your Illustrator background.

Then follow the directions below to remove the green screen

Import the footage into After Effects and make sure your green screen layer is on top of your background.

To enable the Green Screen effect, select your video footage layer and at the top toolbar, go to Effect > Keying > Key Light.

Adjust the Key Light settings:

> Select screen color and using the eye dropper, select any part of the green screen

> Turn on the toggle transparency switch, a transparency icon right below the video preview

> In Screen Matte options, adjust the clip black and clip white to refine the green screen area (this is needed because often the green screen is not one consistent color due to the lighting).

> Adjust the Screen Gain to adjust more detail of the green screen edges.

Use the pen tool, if needed, to cut out any areas that you do not want in your scene and are not on the green screen (e.g. ceiling)

Place yourself into the composition so you are interacting according to your story. Part of your grade will be how you use you as a chaDo

Create a new composition in AE and use the default settings NTSC DV Widescreen 720x480 and change the duration to 15 seconds and save in the Multiply Me folder.

acter effectively with the green screen effect and creative interaction with your characters in the backgrounds. You want to make sure that you are in

a good amount of your scenes (not too many and not too much).
