Overview
In learning video, you have learned how to tell a story although using acting, movement, dialog, and sound makes it fairly easy to share the storyline. In this assignment you will create a natural storyline using photographs to create a diptych.
may not use more than two different shapes but you can use any combination with those two shapes.
Layout
You will choose one of the layouts above for your diptych. Choosing where to place the photos in your diptych is the true test and assessment to this assignment. You have developed an "eye" for photography and you need to use the composition rules for the individual photos but use the same rules for the entire layout so that your diptych is appealing. Choose wisely which photos to use and make sure to vary the angles and also between wide, medium, and closeup shots.
Follow these hints/guidelines:
Shoot
When you shoot your photos you must show the event as three Acts in your photography.
After you read all of the directions for this assignment, take photos of one specific area (e.g. one subway stop, a specific neighborhood, a certain street). Don't travel a long ways away that takes a lot of time. Within this area, take photos of one specific topic/action (e.g. traveling on the bus, buying & drinking coffee at your favorite spot). You do not need and probably should not have a specific person repeated in your shots that you use for your diptych. If you do repeat a person you can use closeup shots (e.g. only their shoes or hands if relevant).
Take at least 10-15 photos of various angles (low, high, bird's eye, eye, dutch) and subject shots (wide, medium, closeup, extreme closeup) but you will only use 5 photos for one of the layout grids above.
Edit
Use the template to create your diptych. Use either a black or white matte background and make sure the white or black spaces between photos is exactly the same. This is very important & a reduction of points will be taken if not. You can edit the photos but apply the same edit or effect to each of them so they look similar. It is much easier if you mask the photos. If you need help in PS you can try various PS tutorials.
Post
When finished, save a JPG full quality and post it to the MF Picasa album. Then post it along with your PS file to Posterous (include the link to the Picasa album) and the link to the spreadsheet.
Print it by Thur and bring it to class.
