Part II: Cinematic Filming Practice

Directions

Remember to view the overall filming list organized by category and then view the partner list

and refer to your notes while filming so you can do it correctly. Again, whoever's desk is closest to the CA computer lab classroom door is #1, next closest is #2, etc. If your group has three people in a row then your video won't need the requirements for #4. Each member will film his or her own shots and each member can film their requirements in any order but Group Member #1's edited video will be first, #2 second, #3 third, and #4's will be last.

When filming you should help each other out to make sure it is being filmed correctly since it is a group assignment. If one of your members is absent during class, they will need to film on their own outside of class during OPPS or lunch the day they return.

Go with a partner who is sitting next to you in your row and shoot Cinematic Video Footage outside at YISS. You and your partner can share a camera phone or it may be better to each have a phone and film half of the requirements each and work together to complete the requirements below.

When filming, keep in mind rule of thirds, smooth filming, cinematic movements with lead room. When you film, change the video size by going to Settings > Camera > 1080p HD at 60 fps.

After-Filming Directions

    1. After filming, open the Google Drive app on your phone and upload your footage to a new Google Drive folder by 4pm on the same day you filmed in class and share it with your group members.
    2. Then on the same day of the class filming, each member edit the clips using iMovie in which they were responsible for and upload it to Schoology by 10pm. Email your group members your video immediately when finished for them to reply as a comment on your Schoology post before 9am the next day and type if they approve it.
    3. If there are some clips that were filmed or edited wrong, they should type those which are wrong instead of typing approved and then the person who commented will not lose points as well. If you need to refilm any clips, do so by 4pm. Don't forget to that each student should bring their completed storyboard next class as well.
    4. One group member will combine them together but do not have the same person edit who edited the trailer video example video. They need to upload the final combined video before the next class after the class filming day.
    5. If one of your group members is late in submitting their footage or edited video clips, submit the video on time without their section and note the missing section as a Schoology comment.

Editing Directions

Do not include any credits or text intro.

Music

Download and add a random wordless music track from Ben Sound but don't edit to the beats on this practice video but you will on your future video. Then type the labels on each of the clips using "Expand Lower Third" and make it 3 seconds long. If the clips is shorter than three seconds then put it for the durration of the shot.

Post the final combined video to Youtube and name it

YISS in Seoul, South Korea #yisspromo

You can choose to keep it public or unlisted based on your preference.

Submit the link to Schoology.

Export the video and upload to Schoology. If the video upload is late, it is the responsibility of the group's editor.

When finished, open the Google Drive app on your phone and import your clips into a new Google Drive folder with your phone and share it with your partner. Then have one partner edit this video and the other partner will edit the next assignment (part II).

When you combine your clips, it does not have to be perfect since this is just practice filming to get better but label each of the bullet points above (Techniques & Categories) in your video using the following titles:

Wide Screen

Keep in mind while filming your real footage that later when you edit, you will be cropping off part of the top and bottom to make it more narrow like the ratio below. This gives it more of a cinimatic-movie look. Don't forget to try to use a selfie stick when you film your actual video.
