Stand Up Stop Motion

Overview

Think of an idea for your stop motion assignment.

February has been deemed Positive School Climate Month for YISS. The idea behind this campaign is to encourage all students, faculty, and staff to embody the values of YISS (Truth, Excellence, and Diversity). The belief is, if everyone in our community lives like a Guardian, then YISS will truly be a safe and supportive place to be. In order to bring greater awareness and to learn how to create an effective stop motion video in CA video, each student will be creating a short stop motion video based on this theme and receive a grade. In addition, there will be prizes for the top 3 winners (50,000w first, 25,000w second and third) with a panel of judges.

Requirements:

    1. Each student in CA video must individually submit a video but may use other students, friends, or family as actors if needed.
    2. Students should incorporate the theme Stand Up...and be a Guardian in their project.
    3. -Previous video winner without people
    4. -Action hero example video
    5. Finished videos must contain some kind of creative stop motion effect using photographs, claymation, or animated graphics.
    6. Finished videos should have a minimum of 100 pictures and a maximum of 200 and under 45 seconds long.
    7. Finished videos need to be uploaded to YouTube with the title “Stand Up...and be a GuardianStop Motion Video and in the description of your video write Produced by your name. The message of the videos will be judged by three criteria:
      1. The depth that the project communicates the theme
      2. The level of creativity incorporated into the project
      3. All of the basic guidelines were followed

Storyline

Be creative and choose a storyline that would best utilize and show a cool effect with stop motion effect that you could not do with normal video. You must film in normal landscape mode (horizontal), not portrait (vertical).

H

    • ere are some of my favorite and what CA students did in the past but without the Stand Up theme:Sleeping example
    • Egg example (but needed better lighting)
    • Doll Dance example
    • Jumper Effect example
    • Moving example
    • Legos example
    • Mario Cart example
    • Switching Clothes example
    • Here is an example of creative stop motion that you could not achieve just by filming but needed to use stop motion effects.
    • You will also need to create the title "Stand Up" using stop motion. For example, draw "Stand Up" or create it in another creative way and take 5-10 photos using stop motion techniques. exampleRequirementsMust photograph outside or inside during the day near a window with natural light; major points off for videos with poor lighting
    • You cannot be in the video since you have to take the photos & direct any actors
    • Use good photo composition and lighting from what you learned last quarter
    • It should be creative and entertaining with a shallow yet creative purpose and plot
    • The final video must about 30-45 seconds of stop motion video (deduction of one point per second you go over/under)
    • Find an appropriate background song that matches the content of your video
    • Do not simply take photos of the action like this video with the girl performing all the actions. Although, the way she photographed the dress and the shoe was correct.
    • Do not just show yourself drawing a pictures as your main storyline like this video.

Part of your grade will be based on how well you utilize stop motion creatively and doing things that you could not do in normal life if filmed with video (e.g. jumping really high, changing your clothes with a snap, sliding on the ground instead of walking).

Photo Taking

    • You will need to take at least 130 quick consecutive photos with good natural light either inside or outside to meet the time requirement but do not take more than 230.
    • 130 = ~30 seconds
    • 220 = ~45 seconds
    • When you take your photos you must have each of the shots (medium, wide, closeup) and angles (low, eye, high, aerial, dutch) while keeping good photo composition (you learned these concepts last quarter).
    • Take all your photos in landscape, not portrait size.
    • Draw the title "Stand Up" or "Stand Up & Be a Guardian" of your stop motion or create it in another creative way and take 5-10 photos using stop motion techniques for the title
    • Take four fun and expressionate selfy photos of yourself in good lighting that you will use in the credits of your video at the end.

Place all of your photos into your Google Drive folder and take one screenshot of the image thumbnails inside the folder (like the example below so you can see at least 20 photos) and post to Schoology.

Be original.
