Shadow Photos

Shadow Collage Photos

Overview

You will be taking photos and later in another class, use them to create a collage.

  • Using your phone or camera, take at least 15 photos of things found in your room or house that best represent who you are or things you like. For example, take photos of your favorite clothes, brand logos, electronics, toys, posters, CD covers, etc. You may not use any photos from the Internet.
  • When you take the photos, take a photo of at least one round and one rectangle or square object.
  • Place your objects on a white bed sheet, paper, desk, or towel when you take the photos. If your object is light colored, then place it on a dark contrasting color.
  • When you take the photo, make sure you show the entire object since you will be cutting it out later in Photoshop.
  • You must take the photos during the day with natural sunlight; do not use a flash. Here is an example of okay lighting for photos but make sure you use a white background. If it is not daylight with natural sunlight, you should just wait and turn them in late instead of taking them at night with a light because you will receive 50% and have to retake them anyway.
  • During photography tutorials, we take proof shots for all of our photos to prove you took the photo as a few students in the past have tried to cheat and use other student photos. Take three proof shots to prove that you took the photos:
  • -one wide shot of your room where most of your objects came from with the objects visible in one place (e.g. on bed or desk) to verify they are your objects and not found on the Internet.
  • - one photo of the view outside your window immediately after you finish taking your object photos to verify that it was day time when you took the photos.
  • Place the photos in your GoogleDrive in the following folder:
  • 9th Grade > CA > QU2 > PS1 Object Photos
  • Take a screenshot of your photos as thumbnails in the folder.

Create a new album in your Picasa called "Shadow Collage Photos" and upload all of the pictures to the folder.

Then go to your album so you can see all your photos and on the right, click link to this album and copy "Paste HTML to embed in website" and post it along with the link to the album to your posterous.

In a Photoshop assignment that is coming up, you will need to use a photograph of yourself that you will cut out and place in the assignments you create. Take a photograph on a contrasting solid color background (light color) that clearly shows your face and cuts off at your chest or waist. Do not hold any objects in your photo. Try to use natural lighting and avoid using flash.

Upload your window view shot to the MF Picasa album and post the link (example) to the spreadsheet.
