DV Effects

Requirements

The following is the list of AE Effects you need to incorporate into your dance:

    • Clone [1]
    • You will have the same dancer dance two different routines at the same time [tutorial] for at least eight seconds. Have the second dancer enter the scene from either the left or right side of the frame and leave the same way (e.g. if dancer A on the left side, dance B enters from the right side, dances, and exits from the right again).

e best.

    • Or you could even use the jumper effect to have the clone come in and out within the scene instead of walking in from the side.
    • Another option is making it appear as though the dancer duplicates himself and then the second dancer comes back into one dancer.
    • Transporter [2] [example]
    • The dancer warps to another part of the same composition like the video example to a different location in the same scene. Make sure you film this scene without the actor so that when they transport out of the scene, you will have video of the background with them not in it.
    • Download and use the Purple Smoke (when you insert it, it will have a white background with the smoke but in the layer mode properties choose transparent) & Poof sound effect for emphasis [tutorial]. You will probably want to not use the turbulence effect if it warps your background too much and looks distracting.
    • Jumper [2] [example]
    • The dancer jumps out of one location and into a new location. This would be the first time you would show the dancer switching to the location so you would want to have the jumper during the first part of the dance. You would then be switching back and forth with footage from both scenes but only one jumper. Be sure to film both scene backgrounds without the dancer to make the jumper work. You will need to download and use the Purple Smoke and follow the tutorial.
  • Green Screen Dancer [3] [Angela's example] [Advanced example]
    • You will film your dancer at a medium shot at school on the green screen and apply particle effects and changing colors.
    • Planning During Editing
    • Speed Variation [9] [example]
    • Edit the speed variation of at least two clips in a creative speed sequence. For example you could starts normal speed, change to slow, then to fast, back to slow, then to normal or on to the next clip. You will be graded on how well you sync it with the dance moves and the beats of the song [tutorial]. Do not use speed variation on the light writing. Check out Sarah's example.
    • Zoom [11]
    • Use the scale keyframe (snowman tutorial) to zoom in and out quickly and drastically on the beats of the song twice consecutively (in, out, in, & out to the original composition) by changing the values of the Z-axis [example].
    • Camera Shake [example] [5]
    • Apply at least one short extreme "camera shake" during your DV at a key heightened point in the music or dance move by applying the wiggle effect to shake the camera hard at an appropriate part of the dance and beats. Do this by increasing the frequency and magnitude to a higher degree [tutorial].
    • Visual Effect [8]
    • Creatively use at least one additional visual effects that has not been required yet and integrate it at an appropriate time in the dance in addition to the jumper effect. (password howzit). You can film yourself kicking or punching at the camera close up and use Download Glass_Smash_10.mov to break the glass.
    • Light Writing [6] [Angie example]
    • Add various light streaks and object outlines to at least one scene with a minimum of 5-10 seconds [tutorial]. Be creative! Here is a dubstep effects example some teenagers created in India [video].
    • 3D Lighting [7] [Kenneth example] [tutorial]
    • Use one ambient lighting to change the color of the scene for a few seconds (1-4 seconds) and then on a beat change to a different color for a few seconds, then another
      • color, and finally no lighting effect and back to the original. Do not use dark colors that will make it hard to see the dancer. You should have at least four color changes. Then create one spotlight (use the exact dimensions listed on the screenshot on the right) and enable 3D lighting on all of your dance video clips after the intro. The first image is the normal image and the second image below is 3D lighting.
      • Do not make it with pure black like the first example but feather and adjust to create a vignette like the second example.

Optional:

Light Trail

Create at least one scene of five seconds with a light trail for one of the dancer's hand movement. Do not apply it on the light writing clips. You do not have the particular plugin the tutorial uses but in it they say you can use cc particle world which you do have on your macbook pro and experiment and use similar settings as it shows [tutorial].

Silhouette [example] [4]

Film yourself using a tripod on a green screen as a dancer using similar dance moves that you will place in the credits. Film the dance for at least ten seconds [tutorial]. Then you will take your green screen footage and create a colored silhouette so your face will not be shown and no one will know it was you so feel free to dance crazy [video tutorial].

Film a kick or punch, break glass.

Add light trails tutorial.

Film shooting the clone and then freeze the clone.

Wiggler [tutorial].

Do not do:

film look: [tutorial]

Motion Tracking

Use motion tracking [tutorial] and have the text Edited by Your Name to fade in and motion track the person's face (eye) over the last five seconds of the video. You can choose where the text position. Place the text Edited by behind the dancer and Your Name in front of the dancer and add various text effects to it [tutorial].

Light Writing

Create your own style of light strokes to orbit around the dance scene for at least eight seconds [tutorial].

Then watch one minute of this video tutorial that explains how to create a nice gradient background but feel free to make it the color and look that you prefer.

Download and [tutorial]

Add a flash transition effect when you transition between clips as seen in the example above [tutorial]

Create your own unique type of particles to span for the duration of the 15-20 seconds and adjust the particles to get gradually more and faster [tutorial].

Place 2-3 second consecutive progressive clips of your silhouette video to be used as cross cuts between each of the footage numbers from 1-5 in the Freeze Intro (four total). If you prefer to add the consecutive cross cut clips somewhere else in your video you may insert them there (four total).
