I Am GarageBand

Part A

You will create a soundtrack using GarageBand on your Macbook instead of the iMac since it is difficult to save and switch computers. During class, if you use GarageBand for the first time on your Macbook you may need to download it using manager. If you would like additional instruments and loops installed, see Mr. Heil in class.

Follow the video tutorial (always take notes) on the iMac to learn how to create your own digital music while you use GarageBand on your Macbook Pro with your own earbuds and the iMac headphones over your earbuds like the example above.

In GarageBand, if you want to split or cut part of a track, you would press command + t for the keyboard shortcut.

Follow the outline and have a music transion for each of the blue headings as indicated. Watch the example and notice how a new instrument is added slightly to each changing transition section.

Make sure you have a voice effect and change the sound of the voice with a voice effect.

You do not have to finish it yet and you don't need to work on it as homework right now. Just insert a couple of beat layers and take a screenshot of your Garageband layers and post it to Schoology.

Part B (72 seconds)

Keep working on your background song for your I Am project from the previous video tutorial

and finish up to Area 3 (72 seconds). Follow the outline and have a music transion for each of the blue headings as indicated on the outline. Watch the example and notice how a new instrument change is added to each changing transition section.

Make sure you have a voice effect and change the sound of the voice with a voice effect.

To fade out go to Mix > Create Volume on Fade .

When finished, go to Share > Export to Disk > choose mp3 and upload it to Schoology.

Part C (90 seconds)

Finish your song, it should be 1:30.

When finished, sign up for a new SoundCloud.com account (even if you already have one) using your school email.

    • For your user name, create a creative rapper name with your first and/or last name (e.g. J-DiddyKim).
    • Go to notifications and deselect most of the boxes so they will not send you unwanted email.

Upload your MP3 song (click the box to allow it to be downloaded and make sure it is public) while naming it Your First and Last name iAm. Take a fun rapper-style medium or tight shot photo with a hat and one other prop (e.g. sunglasses, money, etc) using the plastic camera effect in Photobooth. Use the image for the song's cover and your profile photo. You can take this in the computer lab or at home.Post the link to Schoology.
