AE Multiply Me

Part A

If your lighting changes or the camera moves you will have problems like the example on the right.

Make sure that your arms do not interfere with yourself in other parts of the photo and that your lighting does not change like the example on the right. You also cannot have moving objects go across the screen like cars or people in the background.

Keep in mind that one of the clips you will be moving but in the middle you will freeze yourself in AE editing so you may want to do a unique pose.

For the 5th video of yourself you will record 10 seconds of yourself on the green screen and insert yourself either bigger or smaller in the frame.

Watch the student examples.

Place your video files in dropbox but you do not need to post to WordPress or the spreadsheet on Part A, only Part B when we edit the video in class.

    • Directions [creative student example]This assignment will count as a double tutorial grade as well as a quiz grade since it will test how well you can apply what you have learned from the previous tutorials. You will record yourself while being creative in your actions and try to interact with yourself if possible with the following conditions:In a room but use depth of field (you may film outside but it is more difficult)
    • During the day with natural sunlight
    • On a tripod or by placing the camera on a table or study base (camera must not move) in the same location
    • Record four times with yourself in different locations on the frame.
    • It is best to record once and film at least 10 seconds (recommended to record about 12 seconds to be safe) in one area, then keep recording but just move over to your next area in the frame and count for ten seconds, and repeat two more times.

Grading

This assignment will be graded based on creativity, lighting, AE editing, etc. It will carry a double-weight grade assignment.

Part B

You will be given one class to complete the assignment. You may not talk and get help from friends or the teacher since it is a review and assessing if you learned the material. You may however use notes, YT tutorials, or Google search but it may take away time from your editing and you are given a limited amount of time. You may edit on your own in advance if you desire.

    1. Create a new folder called Multiply Me in your CA folder and move all video files that you took and will export below into this folder.
    2. Create a new composition in AE and use the default settings NTSC DV Widescreen 720x480 and change the duration to 10 seconds and save in the Multiply Me folder.
    1. Import your video clips of yourself including into AE and onto the timeline and make sure to use the scale tool and resize them all at the same time so they are the same.
    2. Insert your four video clips of yourself including your green screen as the 5th person. Go to scale (s) to make sure all of the videos are the same percentage scale.
    3. In each of your video layers, hide the audio icon on the left side of each layer as you will not need any audio.
    4. Edit in AE so that your five people are doing the following:
    5. -Yourself keyed out on the Green Screen
    6. -Doing an action and freeze about half way through the duration
    7. -Reverse yourself
    8. -Yourself doing something creative with no effect
    9. -Yourself doing something else creative with no effect
    10. When finished render the video as H.264 (save the file as your classID in your Dropbox) and post to YT or Vimeo and the video link to WordPress and the spreadsheet. Then upload the MF Picasa album.

Above & Beyond (difficult) Example

If you are trying to earn extra points on this assignment you can film two different scenes next to each other while overlapping them in the middle. Then in AE match them up and move them horizontally to look like a pan horizontal pan but it is very important that the exposure settings on your camera have to be exactly the same. You cannot film with an automatic camera but has to be on manual so it does not change the exposure.

    1. Import "Copy" your footage into a new "Multiply Me" event in iMovie as Large.
    1. Trim and export (Share > Export) each 10 second clip of yourself separately as Large and name them mm1, mm2, mm3, mm4, mmG (you should have five) into the Multiply Me folder.
