City Cuts Planning

DirectionsMany times students like to take photos and film their spring break to remember the great memories they had, especially since students usually travel all over the world during spring break. There is no required homework during Spring Break but if you want to take advantage of the location you will be at during Spring Break, you may film during Spring Break or you can simply wait and film in Seoul the week after Spring Break during the week or weekend by April 9.

Decide which of the two choices you would like to create for your Seoul Cuts:

Choice 1: City Cuts

Scenes from a City: A Tourist Perspective

Focused on creative shots from scenes of Seoul (or whatever country or city you visit) and is basically moving photography as you will show the beauty of the city from your perspective. For choice 1 or 2 you should not focus on certain people or film yourself but show focus on the event and the people around in general. If you are on a GWAM trip, you can film this on one of the days you get to see the city or area.

Other Examples on the Internet:

    • Trip filmed on an iPhone utilizing the slow motion effect [video]
    • Fast paced rhythm cuts of Vietnam [video]
    • Good music and cuts on the beat in Japan [video]
    • Example of how you can film good footage with an iPhone in Thailand [video]
    • Filmed in Seoul & Kyoto with an iPhone [video]

Choice 2: Event Cuts

Event: Following an Event & Subject

In this option, instead of filming location landscapes like in choice one, you will film a specific event and subject (e.g. GWAM mission trip, someone's birthday party, buying new shoes, etc).

Post

Post to Schoology and write which you would like to choose (City Cuts of Event Cuts) and then type and explain the bullets under it on details of the journey. Find an image on the Internet of one of the locations you may film and attach it to Schoology.

    • Example: Find a video on youtube.com or vimeo of a similar travel or city video example
    • Subject: Who will be the main subject? If option A write the city if B then explain the event and location
    • Different: How will your video be unique and different than others in terms of how you film?
    • Goal: if option A just type "to see the city" "or to see the market" if option B explain your subject's goal
    • Locations: list the different locations to shoot
    • Pace/Emotion: describe the pace of the video (slower & emotional, faster beats & clips, dramatic, upbeat positive vibes YISS GOES video, other, etc.)
    • Time: when will you will go film (latest to complete filming is April 9, one week after spring break)
    • Camera: what camera or phone you will use (e.g. iPhone 7)

Vlog Student Example

Here is an example from a

Choice example was focused on scenes of Seoul but this choice is centered around a person or 2-3 people accomplishing a task and journey. For example, you could film your friend's goal of finding the right pair of shoes for a concert and the journey she takes to find them at iPark. You can choose this option if you don't want to film outside but a majority of the filming should be outside your home. Vlog Student Example
