Overview
You will apply the concepts you previouly learned from photography and video and will explore and demonstrate ~6 video shots and provide a lesson to teach each. This assignment will count as your project grade.
Mr. Heil will send you the text and illustrations that explains each shot based on the topic you signed up for from the sign up page. Parts of the book are free online since it is an older book and I also purchased it for reference. If you did not sign up, Mr. Heil will choose for you. You will read and use the Internet to research that shot and then create a googlesite page and video to explain each shot.
Page
Go to Master Shots and click "Create Page" at the top right (make sure you are signed into your class gmail account). Use the name of your main overall shot topic (e.g.Fight Scenes ) as your title. Make sure you choose "Put page Under..." Then create a new page under your main shot topic title and name it the specific shot name (e.g. Speed Punch). Create a new page under your main topic for each of the ten shots (need ten pages).
Summary
Write short paragraphs in your own words explaining the shot and the requirements needed to pull off the shot. Include when would be the best times to use the shot. Draw storyboards, take clear photos of them in plenty of light, and post them next to or below the description and refer to them to help explain your shot.
Storyboard
On a separate blank white A4 paper (no lines), neatly draw six storyboards. Use a similar format dimension like the the three storyboard example below. Make sure the storyboards explain the sequences needed to get the shot. Use pens or markers so it will be seen better than pencil would be. You may use pencil if you make it dark. Place a star on the top right of the 1 or 2 key storyboards that are key in showing the shot.
The first storyboard will be different and will include an outward perspective drawing of the actors and the camera. Later in the storyboard sequence, if the camera moves, then draw to illustrate that like you did on the first storyboard and use arrows to illustrate direction. Use a colored marker and highlight the storyboard box for each of these camera shots.
Example
In the example below, the right side is lighter than the left side, the camera shots are not correct (need to be outward perspective), and the storyboard spacing between each should be tighter.
Storyboard Images
Scan or take a photo/photos of your storyboards. If you take the photos, make sure they are in a well-lit room with plenty of light (natural light from a window works best). Do not have any shadows on your image. Open the image in Photoshop and go to Image > Adjustments and adjust the color, brightness, etc. Then go to Image > Image size and choose Resolution 72, make sure the checkbox for constrain proportions is checked, and then go to the top and change the Width to 585. Save it as a JPG best quality and insert it on the googlesite page below the summary. This image dimension should fill the page with a nice fit. Below your storyboard photo (no line break), type click image to enlarge and center italicize it
Summary Photos
Find a small clip art picture that goes along with your paragraph and insert that instead for your paragraphs. Insert it wrapped right and small in each of your summary paragraphs. Make sure it has a white background and no logo prints on it.
By
At the bottom of the page write three quality review questions and answers from your topic that you covered. Above your questions type Review so they know what it is
Then below that with two line breaks, insert a black and white small photo of yourself and beneath it with no line breaks, type By Your Name.
Film
Now you will think of a short storyline clip using the seven Cs. You may use a scene from your film if you think it would work well. If you make up the scene, do not choose stereotypical scenes but instead, make them creative and interesting. If you have conversations, make sure the camera is close enough to pick up quality audio that can be heard. The acting scene should be less than 31 seconds. You will need two cameras, one to film the actual scene and one to film an wide angle view of the scene with includes the person filming.
Editing
When you edit your video, start the video with a black background slide that says the shot name and By Your Name with a small picture of yourself in black and white. Then, start the video with you starting to explain a brief summary of the shot, when it is best to use it, and the setup of the shot. While you are talking, cut away to show the wide angle shots of where the actor(s) are in relation to the camera and camera person that you see. Continue to narrate how to setup the shot and tips to make it good. Then fade out to black and show the actual clip. End the video on just a fade to black after the clip is finished.
Adding
Add soft background music with no words and make sure it does not distract or is too loud and takes away from your narration. Add two sound effects. You can decide on the total length of the video but do not make it too long...be sure it flows well and try to add humor & energy.
Posting
Upload the video to your YT and to castudent. Name the title of the video the Main Shot topic: Specific topic, Video Shot" (e.g. Fighting Scenes: Speed Punch Video Shot) In the description of the video, write a one sentence summary and by Your Name. Embed the castudent YT video at the top of the page using the following settings:
Then view your video and click "Share" to the right of the "Add to" -- then click Embed and check mark "Use old embed code" located below the HTML code.
Then go to your page your created and in edit mode, click on the HTML icon on the toolbar and paste your HTML in the box after you delete everything inside the box. Change all the width sizes to "600" and all the height sizes to "385" & click update.
Calendar
On the calendar when it says MVS (Master Video Shots) 1, it means you should have the first of your video shots out of the total shots due. MVS 2 means a second one should be finished. 3.5 means you need to finish all of the googlesite part of 3 except for filming and making the video. If your category has more than 6, then you can choose which 6 you want to do.
