In this lesson on type, you'll learn how to do the following:
- How to film on a green screen
- Import green screen footage into After Effects
- Edit green screen video
Summer students can complete this tutorial anytime before the course ends if they need to borrow a green screen from Mr. Heil or used the one in the HS lab.
How to Import your Green Screen into your Project
(complete this part later when you are working on the scene of your story your character is in)
- Watch the video tutorial to learn how to use and edit a green screen.
- Import the footage into After Effects and make sure your green screen layer is on top of your background.
- To enable the Green Screen effect, select your video footage layer and at the top toolbar, go to Effect > Keying > Key Light.
- Adjust the Key Light settings:
- > Select screen color and using the eye dropper, select any part of the green screen
- > Turn on the toggle transparency switch, a transparency icon right below the video preview
- > In Screen Matte options, adjust the clip black and clip white to refine the green screen area (this is needed because often the green screen is not one consistent color due to the lighting).
- > Adjust the Screen Gain to adjust more detail of the green screen edges.
- Use the pen tool, if needed, to cut out any areas that you do not want in your scene and are not on the green screen (e.g. ceiling)
- Place yourself into the composition so you are interacting according to your story. Part of your grade will be how you use you as a character effectively with the green screen effect and creative interaction with your characters in the backgrounds. You want to make sure that you are in a good amount of your scenes (not too many and not too much).
Saving
Any files (e.g. Illustrator, video, etc.) that are imported into After Effects is not saved in After Effects; only the link. Therefore, you need to save using the following method:
Use a dependable USB storage drive that has a high storage copacity. Recommended to create the following folders:
The black bold titles are saved in the classID folder and the purple text folders are saved in the bold text folders.
