Portrait Shooting
Review the slides on portraits. Then go take your two photo ideas from the previous Part A. When you take the two sets, make sure each is in a different setting and different clothes. Take at least a few photos while varying the angle, pose, lighting, camera settings, etc for each of the two shoots. When you shoot, take the photos in landscape, not portrait and keep in mind that later you will edit the photo so that it is square. Be creative with your shots and choose good environments and lighting.
You may ask someone else to help take the photos but you must direct the camera and tell them how to take it. Take a proof photo with the person taking the photo (required). It is better if they don't know much about photography (e.g. family member, little brother or sister, security guard) so that you can direct the person taking the photo. Do not just give the camera to a good photographer or good classmate and say "Take my picture." Make sure you set the correct settings on your camera before you have someone take it.
When you decide how to take your photo, keep in mind the following:
Check out Johanna's photos and my comments I wrote on what to look for when you photograph.
You will be using your self portrait on the top of your photo cube & cropped to a square. You will also be using a wide landscape size of a self-portrait to later create an about.me page (example).
Post your top three photos for each of your two shoots to a new album in your Picasa named "Self-Portrait." If you had more than two different shoots feel free to post the top three photos of each. Put your best preferred photos first. Include your proof photo at the end and in the caption write their name and relation to you (e.g. classmate, friend, cousin, mom).
different variations of your portraits and email the link to your posterous.
Email the link of the album to a CA past or present student and ask them to help you choose the best photos by making three comments on which ones they think have potential of being the best. They should comment on what is good about the photo (composition) and how it could have been improved.
They need to comment before this assignment part is due.
