Special Effects Short Film

Objective

Using what you have learned about video shooting, you will shoot and edit a quality short film. Remember that your actors may be busy so have actor backup plans and do not wait until the last minute to film as you had three weeks to film therefore you may not use an extension or coupon on checkpoint one:

  1. CHECKPOINT 1 Filming
    1. Follow the directions to film your short film.
  2. CHECKPOINT 2 AE Editing
    1. Follow the directions to film your short film.
  3. CHECKPOINT 3 2 Master Shots
    1. Time for AE Editing for your short film.
  4. CHECKPOINT 4 Act I
    1. Create a new composition in Premiere called Act I and edit at least the first 45 seconds of your short film. When finished, export as H.264 and upload to your Google Drive and the link to the spreadsheet.
  5. CHECKPOINT 5 Act IIa
    1. Open the same project file but create a new composition called ca4joe18 "Title of your Short Film", which will be the master timeline. Insert the Act I composition onto this timeline. Create a new composition in Premiere called Act II and edit at least 45 seconds of Act II, which is about half of Act II. Insert the Act II composition onto your master composition and export all of it (Act I & Act IIa combined). When finished, export as H.264 and upload to your Google Drive CA folder called "Short Film" and make sure the folder is public so that it can be graded. All of your previous video Post the Drive folder link to the spreadsheet.
  6. CHECKPOINT 6 Act IIb
    1. Open the same project file and your Act II composition. Build upon the previous 45 seconds of Act II and finish editing Act II while making sure to include the conflicts and climax. Your Act II should be a total of at least 2 minutes long and combined with Act I it should be almost 3 minutes. Make sure to include any needed narrations and sound effects.
    2. After you have completed it, export your whole film as H.264 and upload to your Google Drive CA folder called "Short Film" and make sure the folder is public so that it can be graded. Post the Drive folder link to the spreadsheet.
  7. CHECKPOINT 7 Act III
    1. Open the same project file and create an Act III composition that is about 45-60 seconds. Remember that Act III is the resolution and falling action. By the end of the film, there should be no loose ends or confusion and the viewer should have had an emotional response.
    2. After you have completed it, export your whole film as H.264 and upload to your Google Drive CA folder called "Short Film" and make sure the folder is public so that it can be graded. Post the Drive folder link to the spreadsheet along with a link to one of your green screen footages.
  8. CHECKPOINT 8 Complete
    1. All that is missing for you to do is edit your Green Screen footage and add your two visual effects (password howzit) if you did not already.
    2. Make sure your title is at the beginning of your film and for the credits, follow the directions from the video tutorial but stop after 7 minutes. For the first credits, name the protagonist (e.g. Sammy (first line), indented second line Jean Kim).
    1. After you have completed it, export your whole film as H.264 and upload to your Google Drive CA folder called "Short Film" and make sure the folder is public so that it can be graded. Then post it to your YouTube channel (or a friend's channel if yours does not work) and in the comment section list the 5 angles, then the 5 shots, followed by the 5 cuts, and finally the two Master Shots that you used and write the time that it appears.
