Culture Book

Now that you have sign up with a parter for a background, you will create it.

Open AI and create a new document that is 420 width × 297 height millimeters RGB. When you are done, you will cut it in half in the middle so make sure you do not put any main characters on middle on the binding.

Strategically plan out where you will place the text on the background. For the text, use Avenir Next (Regular) 20 point font and make sure you place it on the background but make sure it can be clearly read. Skip through parts of the visual book example and notice how clear the font is easy to read on the backgrounds.

You can draw your backgrounds and objects in AI or use your previously made files or files from others since it is a collaborative class book. The purpose of this assignment is not to be a lot of work but to give you experience with collaboration, teamwork, and a book director as you have to pull resources together.

Use the character files to make your characters so that they all look similar but of course adjust them to match the description of your specific characters. If your character appears for the first time in the story, then you are in charge of creating that character and then email it to the groups after you that use the same character(s). The same applies to the backgrounds and repeating objects. If you asked other groups for certain files you need but they did not give them to you yet, do what you can and submit it on time with what you have and as a comment, type the things you are missing and the group members you are missing things from and you can finish it by the next class. Forward the email you sent them to request the files if they did not respond. You will then be given extra time to finish the missing files until they send them to you.

The most important part of your design and grading factor is making sure your characters, backgrounds, and style match the other pages of the book. This is where you will need to use good communication and collaborative effort with other CA students to ask them what they are using for their characters and backgrounds so that yours is consistent with theirs.

You only need to focus on matching the style of pages before your pages. For example, if you are making background #4, you only have to contact students who have backgrounds 1-3 to make sure you use similar characters and background styles. If your scene is at a playground and the background before yours is also at a playground, then the playgrounds should look similar but like the animated story, the backgrounds should not be exactly the same angle but should adjust the angle and area of focus of the background. If your scene is a similar scene for the background after yours, you should contact that group and let them know what you are using so they can make it similar.

When finished, export it as a JPG in 300dpi (highest quality). Make sure the JPG file size is larger than 2MB so it won't pixelate. Save the JPG & AI file in this shared Drive folder. Name it with the following format (the first number is the page number):

1 CA3 Group Member Names (Japanese)

Then use https://splitter.imageonline.co/ & crop your image in two. They should be at least 1MB in size so there is a left side page and a right side page. Name the file:

1a CA3 Group Member Names (Japanese)

1b CA3 Group Member Names (Japanese)

The assignment is a group grade so if one member wants to collaborate and improve the other member's designs, they can.
