Green Screen Filming

Part A: GS Filming

[Angela's example] [Advanced example]

Film your dancer on the green screen in the computer lab with the two lights on. Make sure that the dancer's hands don't move off the green screen when they start dancing. If you need to record your green screen at home, you can request a cloth green screen but it is more difficult to use. Try to use the same shirt and look from the original dance video, do not use any type of school uniform, school shirt, or jacket . Film from the waist up on the green screen according to the directions.

Film three clips of 5 seconds each on the green screen. You will be inserting these three clips into three different places during your dance video. One towards the beginning of the dance, two somewhere around the middle, and one towards the end. Try to evenly space them out and not too close together along the timeline.

Once you decide where you will insert the green screen dance clips, try to have the dancer dance the same or similar moves they did for those three sections of the dance. These green screen shots will be closer up and must be medium shots (waist up) so choosing times when the dance focuses on the hands, upper body, or head is the best since the feet won't be seen.

Make sure to use the DSLR camera on a tripod in the HS computer lab and the two large lights to make sure that the green background is evenly lit the same shade of green in the background.

Grading

    • 20 points off for any school clothes used
    • 20 points off for not using a medium shot
    • 20 points off for for uneven (green) background lighting
    • 20 points off if hands or head go outside of the frame
    • 20 points off for comment not posted properly
    • 100 points total

Take a screenshot of one of your green screen clips and post to Schoology.

Part B: Green Screen Editing

Watch the example of the video clip you will be creating.

Create a new composition within your AE Dance Project and make it 4 seconds long.

Insert each of the 5-second clips into the timeline (you filmed for 5 seconds just to be safe but will only use 4 seconds). Key out the green screen for each clip and hide the layer after (use your notes from the "Flying" AE tutorial you did in class that covered the green screen).

Create your own unique type of particles to span for the duration of the 4 seconds and adjust the particles to get gradually more and faster [tutorial].

When finished, render the three clips together as one clip and upload the video to Schoology along with one screenshot.

Finally, insert each of your green screen dance clips one at a time to your AE project while hiding the other dance layers. Then insert the edited video clips into your dance video timeline and make sure to spread them out throughout the video.

Do not do:

Then watch the video tutorial on how to make flashing changing colors for the entire three second duration of each.
