Objective
Create a creative CD cover using various design principles learned
A. Idea
The front cover of your CD project is the most important visual of your CD case and will carry the most weight in grading because it allows you to choose your own design while applying the design principles that you learned.
View the CD cover examples for inspiration and then perform your own search for CD cover examples and find two creative covers that inspire you to post to Schoology, which are appropriate and do not have a parent advisory warning on the front cover.
On a piece of printer paper cut some of the top off so that it is a, sketch out in pencil your idea (include the song name and your singer in the design) and then color it using your color scheme but you may use other colors (be sure to incorporate your color scheme into the designs and typography as much as you can so they are the dominant colors).
When choosing your ideas for your design, you will be graded based on the following:
Then in pen, neatly label in all CAPS at least three design principles you used in creating it (look over your notes for ideas) and draw an arrow if needed from the term to the design. Here are some of the design concepts you learned this quarter.
Also write "Design by Your First & Last Name" in all caps (small letters) either at the top right or left or the bottom right or left.
Later in Illustrator, you must create your images and cannot live trace or use images that are not your own. You may trace objects with the pen tool a little bit but it is recommended that you create the original work and add your own flavor. You may not use any symbol presets (leaves, trees, etc) or any of your designs you made in previous tutorials (e.g. bamboo, etc). Breaking this rule will result in a 0% for your entire project.
Take a high quality photo of it with your phone or camera and save it in your Google Drive. Open AI and create a new 4.75 inch for the width and height with 300dpi and place the image inside this square and resize if needed. Save the AI file to your Google Drive and take a screenshot of your entire Illustrator screen that shows the image in AI and post to Schoology along with your two CD examples you found online. Make sure to bring the paper to your next class to turn in as well.
B. Create
Open your AI file you created in Part A. Make sure to always use your main three colors from your core color scheme. It is okay to use black, white, and gray lightly. You can use an object's natural color if needed (e.g. if you draw a rose, you can color it red) but make sure your color scheme is the main focus.
Remember that you must create your images and cannot live trace or use images that are not your own. You may trace objects with the pen tool a little bit but it is recommended that you create the original work and add your own flavor. Breaking this rule will result in a 0%.
You will be graded on creativity, degree of difficulty, and use of design principles learned.
Export as a jpg maximum quality with a Depth resolution as high (not screen) using art boards and upload to Schoology.
