Stop Motion Edit

Objective

To create a creative short stop motion video to help transition from photography to video. Click on the image on the right to view a stop motion effect used effectively.

    1. Follow the short video tutorial to edit your stop motion video. You can skip the clip transitions if iMovie does not allow you add them.
    2. After you have inserted all your stop motion photos, insert your four selfie stop motion photos at the end and the Four Corners text effect in iMovie with the text Produced by Your Name.
    3. All of your images will be longer than .01 seconds; make them long enough to see clearly but not too long. The final video must about 30-45 seconds of stop motion video (deduction of one point per second you go over/under). Use any content appropriate music that matches your stop motion idea.

When finished, upload it to YT and name it Stand Up & Be a Guardian Stopmotion by Your name.

Post the YT and link to Schoology. Then upload the file using the form.

Do not do.

iMovie Directions

    • Open a new iMovie project with the default settings but name it classID Stop Motion.
    • Drag and drop your title photos into iMovie (or go to File > Import Media > select your photos). Control + click on the image & select Project Properties (screenshot on the right) and in the initial photo placement, choose "Fit in Frame" instead of Ken Burns. You are not allowed to use the Ken Burns effect since it will ruin your stop motion and cause motion sickness when viewing.
        • Then import the rest of your stop motion photos into iMovie and the photos of yourself last since they will be used as the credits (all of the Ken Burns' effects should be removed). Here is an example if you do not follow the directions and remove the effect.
        • Click on the first image again and go to the clip inspector to change your clip (screenshot below) duration to a number between 0:15 seconds and 0:05 depending on how fast or slow you want the photos but the final video when complete must be between 30-59 seconds long (point deduction for breaking the time rule).
          • Start with a (0.00 seconds) transition duration between photos. You may need to change the photo duration and transition duration as needed to make sure you meet the time requirement.
          • You also may want to change certain photos to a longer time than the others if you want to give the viewer more time to see specific photos. For example, if the image below is only 2 seconds it does not give enough time for the viewer to read it so this photo duration should be longer, like the image below that has a lot of info.
  • Background Music
    • You may use any content appropriate music that you think matches your stop motion idea but you will get points deducted for any questionable content or lyrics that imply wrong morals. If you are not sure what music to use, you can use Incompetech which has free copyright music to be used for things like this.

YouUse 3-5 consecutive photos of yourself using iMovie (so you can see yourself) doing funny movements and place them at the end of your video and place the "Four Corners" text effect (see screenshot) over the photos that says "Created by Your First & Last Name (make sure it is legible and easy to read).

Post

    • When finished, export your video as Large and upload your video to the MF Picasa Album (it may take a few minutes to upload; just be patient). Then upload it to your Vimeo channel (create a class account if you did not during the first week of school) and name it using the following title format in Vimeo:
    • Your Creative Title (1-4 words) - a Stop Motion Video by classID
    • Post the Vimeo link to WordPress and to the spreadsheet.

which provides a wide variety of co Then over each photo, use the Four Corners text effect (2.5sec duration each) and type the following with the bold as one line and the text after as the second line.
