A Day in the Live of

Document your Day

Background

Sometimes we are so busy that we do not realize the things we do during the day. Also, in ten years, it would be nice for you to be able to look back and view one of your typical days when you were in high school. The above movie clip is a trailer for a movie (article) that YT created that was released in theaters in America (Summer 2011). In 2010, Siwon, a former computer applications' student entered his footage of playing his cello and his video clip was chosen to be in the film!

Overview

Starting from the time you wake up to when you go to sleep, document within each hour of your day. For example, film a time between 9:00-9:59, 10:00-10:59, etc. A typical student's day is from early morning until late at night so it would cover about 18 hours of the day. The video must be 9-10 minutes so that would mean that if you took video only each hour (which is required), each clip would be about 30 seconds each on average. You could take video twice in one hour for about 15 seconds each and the next hour take one video of 30 seconds. It can vary. But try to make it interesting! You can use any video editing program.

Apply

Now that you learned angles, shots, and cuts...try to apply them to make a better video. The video below was one of the best because it was filmed at various camera angles, creative dialog & events, good interaction, and very entertaining.

Directions

    • Take video of the progression of your day; video at least once every hour
    • When you edit your video place the time, location, and a one word description of what you are doing; place this information on the clip (e.g. 12:55 - YISS Cafeteria - Eating)
    • Make sure that you are in each scene (either put the camera on a desk, hold it, or ask someone to film) and narrate what you are doing (be creative and animated when you speak). You must show the clock or the time somewhere at the location you are filming to verify.
    • Use creative camera angles, shots, and cuts that you have learned in class and speak clearly and loudly so you are easily heard
    • Place appropriate background music with no lyrics into your final video and adjust the volume to low so that your voice can easily be heard
    • Insert a creative title and credits into your final video
    • Keep all of the original video in case I need to check the day and time that you took the video

Post

    • Upload to YT and give it the title: A Day in the Life of Your Name (mfca)
    • Email the link to your posterous and the link to the spreadsheet
