Four Square

You will direct a song that will have four of the following and you will video tape each as they do it using one cut with good composition, lighting, and angles:

• 2 singers
  • You do not have to sing but can ask others to sing. You can either choose a song with separate singer parts or have the other singer harmonize (don't use the same singer twice). Do not use a song with any type of inappropriate lyrics and don't simply use the song and edit it out.
• 2 musicians
  • You do not have to play the instrument but you can have someone else play it. You can record yourself or someone playing the drums or other musical typing instruments in GarageBand if you need a certain instrument that you don't have. You can also be creative with the type of instruments you use. You can vary the song and lyrics if needed.

Record

1. Video record the main musician playing first; remember to use good composition and rule of thirds. Make sure you tell them what to wear; garb is important. Make sure the musicians are always close to the camera so it can record the audio loud enough and clear. Do not have a voice introduction or conclusion...just record the full song.
2. When you are finished recording the main musician, import it into iMovie. Trim if necessary. Then go to Share > Export using Quicktime and choose Sound to AIFF. This will save an audio file of the video that you can import into GarageBand and edit (sound volume, effects, etc). You will use this track for the next three people to listen to with headphones so that the timing of the song is the same when you sync them.

1. Next video record your other musician, then your main vocalist, and finally, your other vocalist. Again, they should listen to the track recorded in the previous direction above while they sing/play it. If there are parts of the song that they are not singing or playing, have them do something creative and entertaining.

GarageBand Edit

Export the other three audio from the videos using iMovie > Quicktime > AIFF like you did for the main musician. Import into GarageBand so that you have all four tracks. Now you will edit what you need to in order to make each the appropriate volume and sound. Export the music out as the final edited MP3 file.

iMovie Edit

To create four separate video screens in one video, watch this video tutorial. After you have imported and synced all four videos then import the final edited MP3 file from the previous direction and sync it with the videos. Then mute the other video audio while keeping the audio for the edited MP3 file. Export the final video to your desktop and a copy to your dropbox as a backup.
