Backup

It is very important that you have all of your footage and editing backed up on Google Drive. If you lose your footage, you lose your computer, or it breaks, you will not get an extension on the assignment because you don't need it as long as it is on Google Drive since you can edit on any computer. Follow the directions to make sure you have Google Drive open on your desktop.

Title

Take a break from watching Mr. Heil and watch this guy's video tutorial while using Adobe After Effects & Premiere to create your City Cuts title. Stop the tutorial at 17 minutes after you have created your title. Remember to type the name of your city in AE and then drag the effect onto your text layer.

    • You can place the text over a footage clip you shot or just on your YISS group footage and add the real footage after you film it.
    • The title should say the city (or country if you prefer) that you filmed at.
    • Type the text in all caps and white text while using a thick bold font like Source Sans Pro on your computer.
    • Use the Random Fade Up transition for the first title entrance.
    • Use both the English and original language of the city while trying to match the some of the beats to the letters like this title example but you cannot use a black background, must have your clips behind the words like this example below.
    • Do not put the title in the first five seconds; you will be inserting the title within the first 5-10 seconds of the video and will try to make it appear on a beat (example).

Make sure your intro has the following like the example:

    • The city's name in both English and the language of the city
    • The title appears between 5-10 seconds into the video
    • There are clips behind the text, not a black background
    • The clips change on the beat (and some of the text)
    • Video clips should be less than four seconds each

Then render the first 30 seconds of the video that includes the title. To render only part of the video click cmd + m to export it and then at the bottom left (below) move the blue bar to export only the part you want and always export as h.264. If you want to export it with a transparent background to insert into Premiere or another video editing program then watch the ~30-second video example. Upload to to Schoology.

Do not do:

Follow the short video tutorial and apply at least one color leak for now. Here is an example of how color leaks can be used effectively.

starting at 8:42 and

Do not do:

Create a new project in Premiere and watch the video tutorial starting at about 10:36 minutes to learn how to set it up and edit your footage inside the wide screen but instead of using the project dimension of 2560 x 1080, divide that in half again and use 1280 x 540.

Then copy and paste and drag the layers from your previous assignment (intro) in Premiere and place it on your new composition. Make sure your intro has the following like the example:

    • The city's name in both English and the language of the city
    • The title appears between 5-10 seconds into the video
    • There are clips behind the text, not a black background
    • The clips change on the beat (and some of the text)
    • No video clip in your video can be more than 4 seconds or longer

Watch the tutorial on how to edit starting at 7:40 in the video tutorial.
