    1. Prep
    1. 30m Do Tutorial 1 only at home, skip down to tutorial 2 if you are at school wanting to work on the PowerPoint assignment.
    2. You will be creating a PowerPoint so that I can know you and your family better. You probably already have used Keynote but it is good to know PP in case you use a PC after high school and in college or your career since Keynote can only be used on a Mac.
        • Later you will be creating a tutorial about your background. Find the following photos to insert into your slideshow. If you don't have digital photos of them, take photos of the printed photo that may be in an album. If you don't have printed or digital photos or a family member feels uncomfortable using their photo...no problem. Instead, you can draw a rough sketch picture of them and color it but don't spend too long on it (you will not be graded on the quality of the sketch). Place your photos in your dropbox folder and name it "The Life of" on your classID. Take a screenshot showing the files or small thumbnails in the dropbox to verify you have completed it and email the screenshot to your Wordpress with the category:[category: tutPowerPoint] in the first line of the email body and an email subject of PowerPoint Tutorial 1: PrepPost your WordPress link from this tutorial to the spreadsheet. Here is an example of how you will use the photos.Thumbnail of you, each of your siblings, and three of your friends (all should be screenshots that are square (example). In addition, gather five photos of yourself which range from birth to now. Try to space out the ages the best you can (e.g. age 1, 5, 8, 11, 14).
        • Family Photo (or most is fine if you prefer) of your immediate family members)
        • Expressive image of yourself exactly like this which you will use as an expression (you can take this with photobooth)
        • A clipart or photo of any type of airplane or fighter jet which has a white background; try to find one that you don't think someone else would have.

    1. Tutorials 4Record 30m Follow the directions to create your background music for your PowerPoint. Now that you have your background music you will be narrating and recording your narration. Part of your grade will be on the quality of your narration:-No distracting background noise-Your voice and words can easily be heard over the soft background music-Not too loud but not too soft-Do not merely read off the text from your slides (especially the friends slide), use notes to remind you of what else to talk about-Be energetic and fun in your narration!! Important. Trying to be funny helps.-Make sure you speak fluid (smooth), clear (articulate)When you are ready to record, go to slideshow > record narrations and add the following vocal commentary to your slides.Slide 1 - Talk about the highlights of your childhood and growing up according to the photos; if you don't remember when you were a baby, comment on what your parents said about you (about 20 seconds)
    2. Slide 2 - Share about your mom and dad, their skills & what they do, who you are most like & why, and what they have taught you which will help you in your future career you chose (20 seconds)
    3. Slide 3 - Talk about the grades of your siblings, their interests, and their pros/cons (20 seconds); if you are an only child talk about your experience as an only child
    4. Slide 4 - Explain more in detail what you and each of your friends have in common and something unique you like to do together (20 seconds)
    5. Slide 5 - Narrate in a humorous way the animation and what is going on (10-20 seconds)
    6. Slide 6 - Say a creative final thought as you conclude (10 seconds)
    7. Time
    8. The time in seconds is a suggested time and does not have to be followed exactly, although your presentation cannot go over two minutes. The penalty is one point off per second over so be careful. Make sure you know what to say before you start narrating.
    9. Narration
    10. When you feel confident, go to Slideshow > Record Narrations and do not choose to link the audio files (checkbox option). Then go to each slide and you will see an audio icon which you can select and change the audio volume to high.

Scream Sound Clip

If you tried to record your sound directly into PowerPoint Insert > Sounds > Record and it does not appear on your animation list, then you will need to record your scream in GarageBand or Audacity for PC. For GarageBand, choose new project > Voice, save it as Your Name's Scream to your desktop. Then hit the red record button on the bottom, scream, and press the space bar to stop recording. Then go to Share > Export song to disk, and choose the mp3 option.

Web

When you are finished, go to PowerPoint > Preferences > General > Web Options and type a web page title and some key words that are on or describe your PowerPoint and click save.

Compressing Images

Since some of your photo images may be very large, you will need to reduce them so your PowerPoint file does not become very big, which may cause it to lag during a presentation. To compress the graphics go to PowerPoint > Preferences > Save and make sure the compress checkbox is checked at medium image quality.

Font

In Mac PowerPoint you cannot preserve special fonts so use common fonts that most computers have.

you can download and use the scream.wav file. Click download on the page and then right click on the 5scream.wav and choose save link as to save it and insert it into your PowerPoint.

Using your PowerPoint slideshow file, choose an instrumental song from http://freeplaymusic.com that is at least one minute long that you can loop. This site provides copyright-free music.
