Designs

Character Again, make sure that your character has the following:

    • Follows your Kuler color scheme
    • Is unique and shows personality that relates to its name
    • Has accessories or clothes that match its name
    • Use shading, gradients, and mesh to add depth to your colors and more realistic with lighting shadows ( part of the final grade)

At the top of the menu, go to Illustrator > Preferences > and make sure Scale Strokes & Effect is selected.

Color

For your background designs you will create, use your same color scheme that you used for your character although you can use other monochromatic colors of the five main colors that you used. For example, if green is one of your colors, you can use light green and dark green.

Tutorial

Watch the video tutorial directions starting at 21:35 and end at 38:33. Create the creative shapes according to the video to use in your background desgin but use your own colors and you can change the designs slightly to fit your style. You can add additional designs if you desire.

After you have made your designs, use each of the shape-changing tools below at least once in a subtle way to make your designs even better.

Be sure to have enough white margin on the sides. The example on the left is too crowded but the right side now has more space.

A large part of this assignment's grade is the appearance of your designs and how well you use your color scheme and unity among your shapes with proximity, continuation, repetion, & rhythm. For your designs, clearly show the following rhythm variations at least once:

    1. Alternating Rhythm
    2. Progressive Rhythm
    3. Random Rhythm
Unity

Reminders

    • Most of the design shapes should be behind the background rectangle but at least three shapes need to be in front of your rectangle designs, preferrable in one or two corners.
    • Use the "keep the audience reading" principle for your character's description phrase but be sure not to make it too difficult to read.
    • Be sure there is enough of a margin white space around the edge of your A4 page.
    • Take a screenshot of your updated character with the background designs.
