Filming

Checkpoints

  1. Filming Checkpoint 1
    1. Take all that you have learned about video concepts and finish filming your clips for your film. Make sure you meet all of the filming requirements.
    2. If you are missing just one or two clips, just email me before the due date of this checkpoint to let me know and when you will film them but you still need to submit the checkpoint instructions below. You should not fill out an extension for this checkpoint unless you talk with me since you need to stay on pace since you need to finish the video for your quarter grade and also to reach the Film Festival deadlines that are set. Remember, if an actor drops out or cannot make it, use your backup actor or your backup-backup actor.
    3. When filming, you must follow your script and storyboards at about 60% accuracy; I will be viewing your original script you submitted and storyboards when grading your final project. You may not change your storyline from your script unless given approval.
      • Move all your video clips of the footage your shot for your film into your Dropbox folder on your Macbook. If your files are too big, just move what you can.
      • Then import all your clips into iMovie.
      • Choose a minimum of four clips you filmed and a maximum of eight clips. When choosing, take one video clip from each of your locations (e.g. school, street, home) and make sure these 4-8 clips follow these guidelines:
          • >Show an actor or actors in each of the video clips you choose for that location.
          • >Make sure you show your antagonist and protagonist in at least one of the clips you have selected
          • > Also make sure that you have selected a scene from Act I, II, & III
          • >If you don't have four different locations in your script, then repeat and if you have more than eight scenes, then submit only eight.
          • Combine the clips in any order in iMovie & upload directly to YT in the large quality setting and name the video Film Sample Clips.
      1. Post the YT link and all the screenshots to your Posterous and the link to the spreadsheet.
  2. Actors
    1. Make a list of all the actors needed in your film and write their title and a short description of the actor in terms of characteristics you will need the actor to portray in the character. Then in parentheses, write your first choice for that actor and a second choice; include their grade or relation. If it is a documentary, you will have a lot of interviewers. Example:
    2. Julie - Protagonist, tall 16 year-old girl who talks fast (Gu Lee 9th, Grace Park 10th)
    3. Mr. Lee - Antagonist, old man that looks intimidating (Fred Han, security guard)
    4. Ginny - Shopkeeper, always appears busy (Sue Lee, mom's friend)
    5. You will have between now and March 4th to film all your scenes. You may start filming after you get your final script and storyboards finished. Although, your actors will want to know in advance when you will be filming so they can plan ahead. Write down all the locations you will be filming, time of day that it needs to be filmed (if it does not matter, type anytime), and the actors involved. Then write a projected date by March 4th that you plan to film. You should avoid waiting until the last minute in case you need to refilm some shots.
    6. School (lunch) - Julie, Jim, Jake (Feb 18)
    7. Seoul Park (sunset) - Mr. Lee, Julie, Jake (Feb 20)
    8. Local Grocery Store (anytime) - Mr. Lee, Jim (Feb 20)
    9. Post this information to Posterous via email.
    10. Now email any students you have listed to be actors or backup actors asking to use them in your film and let them know the dates you plan on filming. Give them a brief background of your film. Make sure you have their cell number. If they are not students and you would rather talk to them in person, do so. If someone turns you down, immediately contact your backup actor and so on.
    11. Make sure you get at least one immediate response. Go to this checkpoint's posterous post and make a Posterous comment at the bottom indicating who confirmed.
    12. Over the next few days as your actors commit to your film, indicate that in additional comments below the previous one. If one ever drops out, indicate that and their replacement.
