Warning to women

As a woman, I feel a duty and obligation to put this warning out there to other women applying to Amazon: there are tech groups at Amazon who are dominated by Indian or Asian guys who will never hire or promote a woman. In these groups, it goes all the way up to senior management and you never see a woman in management there except in HR. These "leaders" should be held to a higher standard and stopped from bringing their backwards view of women into the workplace. During my long Amazon career, almost every time I've seen an Indian guy promoted to tech director or VP, it's always followed by any women in a management position in their org slowly pushed out and replaced by more guys, especially other Indians. This is not just a single anecdote, you could easily prove this via internal hiring and promotion metrics if Amazon was forced to open them up.

Amazon is very much aware of this, so they constantly publicize diversity metrics by hiding these differences and separating gender from ethnicity. Whenever they show ethnic diversity among managers, they show a photo of a bunch of white males with some Asian males mixed in. Whenever they show gender diversity, they show a bunch of new hires with women in the mix. So much for Amazon encouraging women to grow their tech careers at their company.
