Everyone is "fungible"

Amazon's main feature in the past 18 months is the horrible treatment of employees. The terminology used by the incompetent management layer is that everyone is "fungible" meaning replaceable and expendable.

They work all employees to the point of physical and mental exhaustion and hold promotions or work visas over their heads to try and retain a few employees to carryover knowledge to the next batch.

The main reason why they have such high turnover rates (most averaging less than 2 years of service) is that most management is short-sighted and reactive and doesn't actually know how to do their job so they've built this vicious hire and fire cycle to keep work going and keep themselves employed. Paying people to keep quiet about this through severance payments clearly isn't working, so that's why their propaganda has become so transparent in the news lately.
