If job postings were honest

If job postings for Amazon were honest, they would say: Are you a workaholic single person with no spouse and no kids? Do you enjoy working every evening and every weekend? If so, come work with us!

All personal goals are totally stretch goals without consideration for reality so there is no time to invest in training anyone. Everyone is always overloaded and no one feels the satisfaction of delivery because you also have to fight for political recognition of your work above others. In my prior jobs, I always enjoyed being busy but this is totally different and totally insane! Because of the worldwide sites, there are meetings during the morning with some parts of the world, during the day locally and during the evening with other parts of the world. During the weekends is the only time when you can really finish your work. Everything is due now even if it won't be used for months. Hurry up and deliver! Hurry up and then wait!

I have worked in a few other big companies and I have never seen anything like this. The salary seems good at first glance but when you calculate the hours I'm putting in, my hourly rate is barely above minimum wage. I would probably actually get paid more hourly as a cashier at a fast food restaurant.

Before joining I read about some of these experiences but I decided to give it a try. It was a big mistake. Everything people say about there being no work/life balance is true. If you are considering a job offer at Amazon find out what you can about the team you are joining. There are some rare exceptions of teams with a reasonable workload and proper recognition for hard work but be careful because you are likely to get burned here!
