OSHA and Bathrooms

One of the best examples of how much Amazon leadership hates its employees is the bathroom situation in our building last year. For years, there weren't enough bathrooms in our building as they kept adding more and more people. You would have to spend an hour walking from floor to floor if you needed to use the bathroom. Even though this topic came up in our org's allhands meetings on a regular basis, no one did anything about it. Actually, they did do something in documenting who the "troublemakers" were and making sure to set them up to fail in their next performance review. They definitely didn't do anything to fix the problems.

Finally, one of our SDEs went ahead and filed an OSHA complaint with the government on his own just before he transferred to another team. The government investigator came in and confirmed that we were at least 10 times over the number of people allowed per the number of bathrooms. With the threat of major fines, Amazon went into overdrive and moved most of the people into another building while they renovated our building to add more bathrooms. It's a good thing that SDE who complained transferred right away because the leaders who were exposed for being neglectful were livid and wanted revenge against him. He is probably safe in his new department, but it wouldn't surprise me if he got a bad annual review this year in his department based on this OSHA complaint alone since these people will stop at nothing to maintain their political control of the company. Amazon is the kind of place where vindictive managers are the ones who last the longest while they harm so many people.

Update: I just found out that there was an article about this on geekwire last year. All of the photos in the article are our SDEs OSHA complaint:
