The company who doesn't care about you

I've been here for over 18 months and I haven't had a single day off. There isn't great work-life balance but you can't say that out loud otherwise you are openly chastised by leadership. I overheard one leader say that we have to work 6-7 days a week, otherwise we can't be promoted and if you're not on the promotion path, you're soon fired. I moved my family across the entire country for what I thought would be an incredible opportunity, but I've barely seen them since we arrived.

That NY Times article was mostly accurate with just a few misunderstandings by the reporters. I don't see people crying but it's clear that they're always tired and miss their families. It's interesting that we recently received an award for being a great place to work because it's blatantly obvious they are trying to improve their image in the wake of that article. Knowing this place, they probably paid to get that award to "improve" their public metrics, since that's how people "improve" their careers internally as well. Fake metrics and politics rule the day.

If you're considering coming Amazon, consider another company instead. Most importantly, find one that actually cares about you as a person. I'm stuck here now for a few more months because of my relocation bonus but I plan on leaving right after that ends.
