Retalitory Bad Review

My director made sure to give me a bad review this year even though my team all agreed that I was very successful last year. I think the only reason he did this was because he was trying to promote one of his direct reports to senior manager and I was the SDE who worked most closely with that manager last year and I know he definitely did not deserve to be promoted. Since my director knew that I didn't support the promotion, the only way he could justify leaving me out of the process was by claiming that I was a bad performer myself. This has really shattered by confidence in Amazon's review process being a meritocracy since someone bad at their job got promoted while someone good at their job got a bad review.
