The Next Fiasco

It's really weird to see your experiences corroborated by strangers, but the other stories on this site exactly match my experience during my years at Amazon. The average Amazon employee stays with Amazon for 14 months. I was with the company for a little under 5 years, which is longer than nearly 85% of the employees.

For a company that prides itself on efficiency, this turnover rate seems painfully inefficient. It’s also painful if you’re one of the few long term workers. What happens is that your coworker exits (quits or fired, it doesn’t matter) and then their work falls to you. If you manage to hold things together, the person is never replaced. If you don’t, you’re also fired. Then the project failures on blamed on those who are fired and everyone move on to the next fiasco.
