Broomball

My dad worked for Amazon for 10 years. I remember being a little kid and I could never figure out why my dad avoided taking us to the company picnics. He later told me that it was because of broomball.

If you haven't heard of broomball, it was (and probably still is) part of the company picnic day where employees and family members play a game on a soccer field with brooms and a giant inflatable ball. Apparently, Jeff Bezos takes this game very seriously and would keep people at Amazon who weren't good at their jobs if they would be able to help him win the broomball tournament. Similarly, he would give the members of any team that beat him a hard time about it and sometimes that would hurt their careers if their managers took those comments too seriously, since they came from Jeff.

With this being the case, my dad didn't want to either hurt his career or suck up to Jeff by being at the broomball game, so we never showed up to the picnic days.

I think this website shows how broken Amazon has become when you can see Jeff's attitude towards a stupid game, which isn't even a real sport, and how he leaves his managers to treat people badly for stupid reasons without any oversight at all.
