Very horrible experience

I worked at Amazon and then joined Microsoft this past January. My experience at Amazon was very horrible, so take it with a grain of salt. Amazon is a large company and culture varies widely between orgs and even teams in the same org.

My managers at Amazon were psychopaths. They would constantly use leadership principles to beat everyone down, not because they really believe in them but as a tool for abuse. They would always keep everyone under immense pressure with crazy deadlines and will blame everyone but themselves for missed dates. Amazon fires so-called "low performers" frequently without giving them real feedback or much of a chance to improve, whether they were actually low performers or just disfavored.

I am now at Microsoft and the culture here is infinitely better than Amazon. Managers here treat engineers as an asset and as top industry talent and they give constant feedback to you to improve, raising everyone around them.
