The worst sin at Amazon

I joined Amazon in 2008. Thing have definitely got much worse in recent years, but some of the bad practices have been with us all along.

One of the worst things is that Amazon punishes workers for falling ill. Even if a worker has a legitimate doctor’s note, it's not acceptable. Taking a day off sick, even when excused by a doctor, results in a "point". A worker with too many points faces firing.

Amazon also consistently shorts many people on their hours and especially on overtime, but you can't complain about this because you'll be fired right away. Instead of focusing on rewarding actually good performance results, Amazon focuses on limiting liability through firing and paying severance packages whenever they think they're at risk of lawsuits. Managers almost never get fired unless they speak up on behalf of workers. Standing for worker rights is apparently the worst sin at Amazon.
