Hierarchical mindset

I worked at Amazon for 19 months. The work hours are rough. You should expect to work at night and weekends all the time. Management is draconian. Even though they say they are getting rid of it, they are still stack ranking. There is also a complete lack of positive recognition all the time. Instead, every single day ends with a list of things that you should be doing better. Also, your sign-on bonus and relocation are clawed back if you stay less than 2 years and it’s very difficult to stay longer than that. The hierarchical mindset is overwhelming. You will constantly hear about what your boss wants and what his boss wants and what his boss wants. There is no way to do everything that is asked of you. Therefore you will CONSTANTLY hear about it. If people take a liking to you, then you might luck out and survive and maybe even get promoted, but be ready to get political because that’s all that upper managers care about. This place is not meant for normal human beings.
