Restarting career again

I have been working at Amazon.com for a little over 5 years. Amazon moves at a fast pace (which I love) and it has an overall interesting culture. The problem is that everything depends on the organization one is in and, even more important, who your manager is.

Career growth at Amazon depends entirely on direct managers. Most people don't keep the same manager at Amazon for more than 1-2 years. Sometimes, it's only 6 months between manager changes. This churn causes people to restart their career growth from scratch again and again because each new manager needs time to get to know your work before they decide to support your promotion or not.
