Cross-team sabotage

The so-called "Leadership principles" are idiotic and the culture is toxic. At Amazon, your peers use these against you to prevent you from moving up the ladder ahead of them or to get rid of you if you clearly deserve to be ahead of them.

Sometimes, cross team sabotage is even worse than the sabotage from your own team. I worked my butt off on a project for another team only to be thrown under the bus by them. Luckily, my director is the most expert person in Amazon politics so he was able to save me and actually turned that project into a promotion. My luck is unfortunately not carried over to the dozens of others who fall into this trap every year and lose their jobs despite excellent work.
