Building Contractors

I am a contract employee with a company who installs the conveyor in Amazon fulfillment centers. We are treated no better than the regular Amazon employees.

We are faced with an unrealistic timeline in which to complete our work. Our current job has been ongoing for 6 months. We have completed and turned over phase one. Now approximately 2 weeks from completing phase 2 we are given 3 days to remove ALL of our equipment( except 3 office trailers) from the property so Amazon can begin bringing in their product and stocking it.

We still have about 2 miles of conveyor and electrical to run. We cannot finish our work with no tools not to mention the last 2 miles of conveyor.

Their demands seem childish and frankly quite idiotic. Any sane person would see that in 2 more weeks we would be done and gone.

Stocking product in a FC in which the conveyor is not finished is akin to beating a dead horse. Neither accomplished much.

Our actual time line for this install was 8 months so we are well ahead of schedule.

I'm guessing this is Amazon's attempt at ensuring we can't complete our job within the stated timeline so we forfeit a large sum. It seems to be the same every time at Amazon.

The workers for our company cringe every time we are scheduled for an Amazon. We never seem to have the nit picking and out right badgering and bullying when dealing with say UPS, Wal-Mart, FedEx, Gordon Foods, Home Depot etc.

And seriously Amazon Security is a joke. We have items missing continually, vehicles broken into in the parking lot with no security cameras up and running, and really .... most of us are over 50 out here. We DO NOT need to be escorted to and from the port a John outside. We pass through security both ways. Do we really need a 20 year old with the proper color badge to make sure we get there and back?

Also the rule that you must be within your supervisors line of sight at all times. Kind of hard to do when 1 supervisor has 35 employees and they are working on different projects on different levels of the building. Their on site rules have definitely been formulated by someone who has never worked in building trades with large crews.

Our company has several more of these to do in the next 2 years. Hoping our crew misses out on them.
