Run far far away

I have got to hand it to corporate... Amazon does a damn good job selling the Area Manager position to young, naive, and unsuspecting college hires. The company wows them with a seemingly amazing compensation package: base, signing bonus for two years, relocation expenses, and behold so much stock! But wait, if you leave in a year, you must pay it all back! But wait, the stocks vest in FOUR long years! In reality, the company should be honest and ethical, meaning sell this position as what it is: being a glorified babysitter for employees.

I hate my life every day I wake up, coming into this soul sucking place. A place that is not a meritocracy. Running one of the best shifts and having the top connections scores does not equate to a promotion. How does that make sense? Consistently my team delivers on customer shipments. I myself have scored a 4.6/5.0 on connections, putting me in the "Highly Effective" category for managers. Time and time again my associates have told me that I am the best manager they have had... and damn do associates go through a crap ton of managers at Amazon.

So how in the world do I not deserve a promotion?

Instead, area managers who don't know how to run shift, who don't have the respect of their team, get promoted. Instead, those who kiss ass, who find the right person higher up to like them, get promoted. I will never understand this place. Only a few months to my year and I cannot wait to leave this hellhole of abuse.
