Laughably unrealistic

At Amazon, the politics and the laughably unrealistic workload drove everyone crazy!

I was lured by an AWS recruiter from LinkedIn to join AWS and worked there for just over a year. I worked in a DBA group. The clueless manager did nothing but playing bad politics. "Credits" were only recognized for his friends. Excellent work done by all others are ignored. This manager lies all the time. I'll give you one example: he lied to upper management of achieving one-click building of databases in a new region, which never happened.

The workload is many times of normal workload in other places. I saw people run away from AWS by taking a pay cut and even paying back their moving expenses. Everyone is quietly working on his/her exit strategy as early as a few weeks after working for AWS.

My recommendation to job seekers is to stay as far away as you can from not only AWS but Amazon as a whole. For people who are currently working for AWS, please actively work on your exit strategy. It is really not worth it. Do not let Amazon work ruin your health and your family.
