Not worth it

I am a former amazon warehouse worker who has narcolepsy with cataplexy. On hiring event day I was told my condition wouldn't be an issue and that I would be reasonably accommodated; if I was put into a job that would be dangerous for me, I could just let them know and they'd promptly move me to something more suitable and safe. The employees at orientation made sure they gave us the impression that amazon cares about its workers and that everyone is very happy and well taken care of, that our opinions are valued. We were encouraged to email Jeff Bezos with concerns or suggestions, and escalate to HR if we ever had a problem (but they said there are rarely issues because everyone is so well taken care of).

I was immediately put to work going up and down a ladder all day. I told my team leaders my concerns, and they told me to stick it out and try my best, which I did. After a while and a few near-injuries and fall scares, I brought it up again and again. My managers would either promise I would be moved to a different position the moment one opened up, or they would tell me I had to muscle through it because I was a fast worker with good numbers (which they sorely needed).

This went on for months, as I became more and more concerned about my safety and health. I watched as the jobs I could work safely opened up and they promptly filled those positions with the team members they favored or people with bad numbers, telling me they'd get to it eventually.

All the while I dealt with the strange amazon cult-like culture, manager harassment for taking more than exactly 5 minutes to walk across the warehouse to go to the restroom and get back to my work, and one manager in particular who liked to startle me (triggering cataplexy) while I was on the ladder as well as schedule me for every single overtime shift possible and speak poorly about me to my teammates as well as other higher-ups within earshot, likely to get back at me for being persistent about needing a position that was not dangerous for me. I still can't think of anything else I could have done to piss this guy off.

No matter how much I begged and pleaded with them they kept putting it off, knowingly putting me in danger in favor of good numbers for their team. I had already had some experiences with HR and found them to be incredibly apathetic and unhelpful, so I resigned and got a different job.

Don't believe their lies - they don't want employees, they want robots. The money and benefits weren't worth it for me, I wouldn't even wish that hell on my enemies.
