Every man for himself

Having been at Amazon for nearly a year, I can tell you that Amazon isn't a place where other people strive to make you better. It's mostly 'every man for himself'. Everyone tries to look good and doesn't really do the most productive thing for the company. Most people aren't as bright as they claim to be, but instead are very arrogant. This kind of eventually gets very frustrating, especially to someone who wants to learn and grow as an engineer.

Most people in the company who have survived for longer aren't as bright, and it can be painful to work and coordinate with them since everything they do is political. It really slows you down, to the extent that you lose motivation in the work you're doing.
