Kingdoms of mediocrity

Jeff Bezos lives in a bubble surrounded by yes men. Gate keepers keep away unwelcome news, like the truth exposed by this site, glassdoor, and so many news articles. In fact, things are far worse than any of these sources indicate.

The review process has been long overdue for replacement for years. Many very good people were forced out after they dared to stand for what was honest and ethical. Senior managers and directors use the system and leadership principles to force conformity over innovation. They value group think and blind obedience.

People who took Bezos' email in August 2015 (after the NYTimes article) to heart and let HR know of issues were quickly ranked into the bottom 10% for having backbone. Most of them were then fired either this past April during annual reviews or October during midyear reviews.

Criticism at Amazon is quickly squashed. Creative people with strong skills and out of the box thinking are regularly pushed out to protect the middle managers' kingdoms of mediocrity.

I do hope the new system they just announced for 2017 will be better. Maybe it can finally weed out the Koolaid-drinking "leadership" who only spend time on kingdom building instead of results and innovation. Time will tell.
