No contract fool

I recently got hired at Amazon and was very excited because I had not yet read the articles on this site. I just published my first book on the Amazon website and thought it would be cool to work for them too. Well I was wrong, and I haven't even made it to the first day yet. Like everyone else, I was sent several pages of electronic contracts to sign. Since I worked in banking for years, before Covid happened, I knew to read everything. Low and behold, on the very first doc called "Confidentiality and Invention Assignment Agreement" the first few pages just did not sound right. It states there is no-soliciting up to 18 months after termination, and amazon has rights to all copyrights of all employee inventions and creations, even prior to and after employment. It's for the life of the creation. It also states you can not modify the contract.I called HR 3 times but very few knew what to tell me and they said to talk to the local office. I went to the headquarters in my state and was told to sign it or I would not be hired. I went to the warehouse where I was stationed and was told I was just reading it wrong.Well, I am not signing this after I've worked so hard to get the rights to my book. My parents thought the contract sounded funny too. Thank goodness I found this website before I gave in. Take heed.Â
